Intergenerational and Community Events

Since its beginning Beat It Percussion has been involved in many community arts ventures from carnivals to concerts, themed events and busking. Our partners have included:

  • Disability support organisations

  • Adult Day Care facilities

  • Community festivals and celebration events

  • Mental Health support organisations

  • Libraries

  • Dementia Meeting Centres and Memory Cafes

We work closely with each of our customers and plan customised sessions which are tailored to the customer’s desired outcomes. This can mean that we concentrate on confidence-building and leadership activities, listening and concentration skills, inclusion and participation, embedding numeracy and language skills, and cognitive skills and memory building. Alternatively, we can work with your group to create a pop-up street band!

Intergenerational work uses rhythm to integrate diverse groups in the community. Fear and misunderstanding surround the subjects of ageing and dementia in the wider community. Through bringing children and young people into contact with older adults this begins to change to acceptance and understanding.

We use rhythm, song and socialising to introduce school children to elders and create events that are uplifting and rewarding for all who participate. In turn the children can help their own families to gain greater awareness and understanding.
